Huaxi Cross-Stitch
A century of clothing becomes a spatial encounter, while patterns take on new forms indoors and out.
Commissioned by the local cultural and tourism authorities, the exhibition took the cross structure of Huaxi embroidery as its starting point, bringing historic clothing, patterns and contemporary installations into a spatial narrative.
Garments from different decades formed a century-long timeline. Visitors moved among them, encountering changes in patterns and everyday life across time. Outdoors, sculptural installations gave the forms and structures of the patterns a new presence among the buildings.
